Classic Pilates

Why Pilates?

Pilates is a system of movement and therapeutic exercise developed over 60 years by Joseph Pilates, a pioneer of physical therapy. Classic Pilates works by toning weak and unsupportive muscles and balancing joints. In addition, Pilates promotes new neuromuscular patterns, heightened body awareness and coordination. This combination of benefits can help prevent re-injury and reduce, or even alleviate, chronic pain and immobility.

Joseph Pilates called his work Contrology for its ability to teach ultimate control of movement. Now called Classic Pilates, it addresses specific injuries while rehabilitating the entire body, thus encouraging healing. Breath work is an integral part of the sessions, since oxygenation and circulation combine to accelerate the healing process. Pilates is often the most effective tool for injury rehabilitation because it is one of the few true ways to create decompression of your spine and all other joints. You become aware of ineffective movement patterns and imbalances, which leads to understanding how to deal with incorrect movement in everyday life.

Reformer, Mat and Chair classes are available, either separate from other treatments offered, or in conjunction with a massage therapy appointment. Call us to schedule a session.
